At its Upper Zakum Concession, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has smashed the record for the longest oil and gas well.
The 50,000-foot-long well, which breaks the previous world record drilled in 2017, helps ADNOC’s initiatives to increase the production capacity of its lower-carbon oil and gas resources in order to fulfill the expanding demand for energy in the world.

According to the business, ADNOC Drilling used Umm Al Anbar, one of ADNOC Offshore’s manufactured islands, to drill the oil and gas well.
This engineering marvel is a component of the extended reach well project that ADNOC Offshore planned and oversaw with the help of its Upper Zakum important international partners, ExxonMobil and Inpex/Jodco.
The vast Upper Zakum reservoir’s untapped portion will be accessed by the extended-reach wells, potentially increasing the field’s production capacity by 15,000 barrels of oil per day without the need for additional infrastructure or field expansion.

This outstanding accomplishment is consistent with ADNOC Drilling’s mission to provide more efficiency for our clients while continuing to generate shareholder value. Our dedication to reducing operational costs is further demonstrated by the delivery of this ground-breaking well, which enables ADNOC to meet its goals for oil and gas production capacity. According to Abdulrahman Abdullah Al Seiari, CEO of ADNOC Drilling, “This historic milestone is a credit to the hard work and dedication of our staff who have collectively demonstrated how, as a responsible operator, we are successfully maximizing the use of advanced extended reach, horizontal, and directional drilling methods.”
“ADNOC is enabling us to drive development, optimize value, and reduce the environmental imprint of our operations through its unique and ground-breaking use of artificial islands in conjunction with its unmatched drilling skills. We will continue to push the limits of engineering in collaboration with our important international partners for the benefit of the UAE, our partners, and customers worldwide. ADNOC Offshore’s CEO, Ahmad Saqer Al Suwaidi, added.
The Upper Zakum and Lower Zakum reservoirs make up the Zakum field, which is situated 84 kilometers northwest of Abu Dhabi. The area is regarded as the world’s biggest offshore oil field. Five of the top ten longest wells in the world have been drilled from the manmade islands of the Upper Zakum since June 2021.
One of the four man-made islands in Upper Zakum is Umm Al Anbar, which acts as a center for offshore drilling and activities. By perfecting the artificial island idea, ADNOC Offshore was able to reduce costs and improve the environment compared to more traditional methods, which typically call for additional infrastructure and offshore installations.
